Internal injuries caused Saturday afternoon when she was struck by an automobile at Fourth and Commercial Streets, resulted in the death of Mrs. May Freeman Servaes, 51, wife of James Servaes, farmer south of Atchison, shortly after 9 o'clock last night in the Atchison hospital. Mrs. Servaes was struck by a Model T Ford roadster driven by H. C. Paulsen, 915 South Seventh Street. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon at the Harouff & Buts service parlor with burial in the Sumner cemetery. The Rev. M. O. Kellison, pastor of the Christian church, will officiate. The body will remain at the Harouff & Buts parlors. Mr. Paulsen, according to the report made at the police station, accompanied by his wife, who was down town for the first time following an illness, had been at the post office and was looking for a parking space on Commercial street. Mr. Paulsen saw a space on the north side of the street west of Fourth Street and drove to Third and Commercial Streets to turn around. Traveling about 10 miles per hour he turned out slightly just west of the intersection to park and Mrs. Servaes was struck by the left front side of his car. Apparently driver and pedestrian failed to notice the other's presence. Mrs. Servaes was knocked to the pavement. She had been at the Trial grocery. In the crowd that gathered was a brother-in-law of the injured woman, Joe Barger of Effingham. He summoned a taxi and had Mrs. Servaes taken to the Atchison hospital. Mrs. Servaes' maiden name was May Estella Freeman. She was born November 24, 1880, at Abilene and came to Atchison county in 1894 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Freeman. She was married to James Servaes in Atchison April 10, 1900. They made their home south of Atchison in the Sumner community, where Mrs. Servaes was held in highest regard. She is survived by her husband; two daughters; Mrs. Ed Hanf, south of Atchison, and Mrs. A. E. Noll, Winchester; two sons, Antone Servaes, south of Atchison, and Alonzo Servaes, Tulsa; her parents Mr. and Mrs. John Freeman, south of Atchison; and six sisters, Mrs. Jennie Tice, Topeka; Mrs. Ada Garrison, Myssa, Ore; Mrs. Florence Barber, Effingham; Mrs. Grace Clark and Mrs. Laura Chapman, both of Atchison, and Mrs. Vera Bennington, Gladwater, Tex. Six grandchildren also survive.
