Description	:	Vida May Stevenson was born to Ralph William and Elizabeth Ann Rollett Stevenson at Adrian, Illinois, November 8, 1889. She was the fourth child of a family of seven, two of whom are still living. She passed from this life at the Lamoni Manor at Lamoni, Iowa on Sunday, October 2, 1983, at the age 93 years, 10 months, and 24 days. She helped her mother... Read More	Vida May Stevenson was born to Ralph William and Elizabeth Ann Rollett Stevenson at Adrian, Illinois, November 8, 1889. She was the fourth child of a family of seven, two of whom are still living. She passed from this life at the Lamoni Manor at Lamoni, Iowa on Sunday, October 2, 1983, at the age 93 years, 10 months, and 24 days. She attended a rural school in younger years and longed to attend high school but instead returned to her school and took extra advanced courses with Mark Seigfried as her teacher. She helped her mother at home as there were several younger children and also would help her older sister and sister-in-law when they needed help at the time of the births of their children. As a young woman, she made her commitment to Christ, and was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the age of 21, and attended Rock Creek congregation until her marriage. She remained faithful to her church all her life and studied many of the church books. On June 23, 1914, she married William Henry Thomas of Burlington, Iowa, in her parents' home near Adrian, Illinois with Elder George Lambert officiating. To this union were born 4 children: Ada May, William Henry, Jr., Elbert Rollett, and Mildred Louise. In 1941, the family moved from Ft. Madison, Iowa, to a farm located southwest of Lamoni in the Evergreen neighborhood where they lived until Will's death in April 1962. Later that year she moved to the home in Lamoni she occupied until a short time her death. In July 1967, she was badly injured in a car-truck accident near Cameron, Missouri, and was left with one eye severely damaged as well as some injuries to her back. In spite of all this, she lived alone in her home until she was over 93 years of age and crocheted rugs, pillows, and over 70 afghans for her family. Over the years she did many kinds of handiwork. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Carrie Jane Grotts; three brothers: Brierley John, Pearl Franklin, and David Ralph Stevenson and her companion, William H. Thomas. She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Ada May and Paul Griffith of Lamoni, Iowa; William Henry and Geraldine Thomas of Dumont, Elbert Rollett and Marjorie Thomas of Eagleville, Mo., and Mildred Louise and Wayne Blevins of Rich Hill, Mo. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Charlie Thomas and Tot Stevenson of Lamoni, Iowa, and a sister, Flossie Ann Brown of Augusta, Illinois. Additional survivors include fourteen children, twenty-five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 5, 1983, at 2 p.m. at the Lamoni RLDS Church, in charge was the Slade Funeral Home of Leon, Iowa. Officiating were Elders Gerry Bolingbroke and Glenn H. Sherman. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni, Iowa.
