Description	:	Mayda Bernice Hass, the daughter of John Newton Jr and Pearl Adele (Leach) Ager was born July 30, 1919 at Frederika Township, Bremer County, Iowa. She departed this life Tuesday, July 11, 2006,at Prairie Good Samaritan Center in Miller South Dakota at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 11 days. She departed this life Tuesday, July 11, 2006,at Prairie Good Samaritan Center in Miller South Dakota at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 11 days. Mayda moved with her family as a young girl to Meade County on a sheep ranch near Cedar, South Dakota, she helped herd the family sheep, afoot or atop her favorite pony. She received her formal education at Meade County, District #9 & #44 schools. On August 29, 1936 she was united in marriage with Frank Edward Moody at Spearfish, South Dakota. This union was blessed with three children, Edward Lee, Yvonne Bernice and Charlotte Bonita. Frank and Mayda were called to Kansas and on to Arkansas to assist Franks Grandmother Summerland with sorghum harvest, when harvest was over they spent a brief period of time in Chicago Ill, where two of Frank's brothers lived, to find work, times were hard and jobs were scarce, within the year they were offered work in Jackson County Kansas near Frank's parents, their son was born in Kansas. A brother of Frank's working in South Dakota suggested they move back to SD as jobs were plentiful. They moved to a ranch south of Ree Heights, a partnership was formed when they moved to the west ranch. In 1948 they held a farm sale, purchased a home, grocery store, creamery and egg candling business in Ree Heights SD. The family all ran and worked in the business. When Frank and Mayda began building on and remodeling their home they both learned the love of carpentry, they sold the store business and began building and remodeling houses, Frank would build and Mayda would finish the cabinetry, she became an expert in refinishing furniture. Mayda raised a large garden every year, preserving the produce for later use; she was an excellent cook and for a period of time worked in the lunch room at the Ree Heights School. Frank and Mayda's door was always open to the country kids during bad weather often times it would end up being several days before the roads were cleared. Mayda always surrounded herself with a variety of animals and birds. During the summer months the family did extensive traveling, she taught her children the love of riding horses and hunting. Mayda and Frank enjoyed many weekend trips to the river with their pickup camper and boat for fishing - often times taking along grandchildren. Frank and Mayda celebrated their 40th anniversary in their church, the Congregational Church in Ree Heights July 29, 1976. They later joined the Baptist Church, first in Ree Heights and then in Miller. After a lengthy illness her husband Frank E died on October 25, 1979, he is buried in the Ree Heights Cemetery. In 1980 Mayda sold the family home in Ree Heights and worked in a care home in Cavour, SD. On June 20, 1981 she was united in marriage with John Lawrence Hass at Miller, South Dakota in the First Baptist Church. They made their home on the family farm near Emery South Dakota. Grandson Burle Christopherson Jr lived with them for a number of years. John and Mayda's 25th anniversary was June 20, 2006. Mayda loved to fish, hunt, dance and play cards. Her greatest love and appreciation in life was her family and she especially looked forward to the time they spent together. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 43 years, Frank on October 25, 1979, two month old grandson Michael Edward Moody, November 5, 1958, infant great-granddaughter Christine Yvonne Flesner, February 23, 1990, son-in-law William (Billy) H Stephens April 18, 1997 and 6 year old great-great-grandson Daimion James Hoit, March 14, 2005, three brothers; LaVern, Reno and Grant Ager and three sisters; Leona Ager, Dorothy Dobbie and Geraldine Allen. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 25 years, John L Hass, three children Edward Lee (Carol) Moody, Little Falls, Minnesota, Yvonne Bernice Stephens Red Cloud, Nebraska and Charlotte Bonita Christopherson, Miller, South Dakota, fifteen grandchildren, one step-grand child, thirty two great-grand children and seven, step-great-grand children, five great-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild. Three sisters; Helen Martinson Amery WI, Alvira (Vi) Shear Belle Fourche SD, Verla Renney Spokane, WA and one sister-in-law; Louise Ager Belle Fourche SD. Interment will be in the Emery Community Cemetery in Emery South Dakota with Reck Funeral Home of Miller is in charge of arrangements. Granddaughter Sarah Woodman, Kenesaw NE soloist will sing Amazing Grace, casket bearers are grandsons, LaVern, Burle Jr and Timothy Christopherson, Kevin Moody, E.B. (Bert) Stephens II and granddaughter Robin Sporrer. The Miller Press 7/18/2006 She is also on the stone with her first husband in another cemetery.
