Description	:	Mayme Helen Kovanda was born to Joseph Zeleny and Anna (Bures) Zeleny on Sept. 21, 1905 in Madison Township, southeast of Burress. She passed away Sunday, March 26, 1995, at the Fairview Manor in Fairmont, at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 5 days. She received her education in rural District No. 25 south of Exeter. She then went to Geneva and took sewing classes and learned how to make her own patterns. She did sewing for herself, her mother and her sister's family. She also died quilting and crocheting in her spare... Read More	Mayme Helen Kovanda was born to Joseph Zeleny and Anna (Bures) Zeleny on Sept. 21, 1905 in Madison Township, southeast of Burress. She passed away Sunday, March 26, 1995, at the Fairview Manor in Fairmont, at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 5 days. She received her education in rural District No. 25 south of Exeter. She then went to Geneva and took sewing classes and learned how to make her own patterns. She did sewing for herself, her mother and her sister's family. She also died quilting and crocheting in her spare time. Mayme was very fond of children and she and her mother and sister, Lillian would go tot he Thomas Bures home, only two miles away, to visit her younger cousins. A visit before school started in September always was a pleasant surprise, as she came with a new lunch bucket for the new scholar, pencil boxes for the others and candy in her apron pockets. Mayme was able to drive a car and would make weekly visits to her relatives. She was a very caring person. After the death of her father in 1932, she and her family built a home on the farm which her brother, Mike and family lived. In 1943, she went to Fairmont and worked as a waitress for Mrs. Lloyd Dixon. She lived with her friend Laverna Laschansky Morris and family. She enjoyed working with the public and made many friends. On Nov. 15, 1945, she was married to Charles Kovanda Jr. of Exeter. They purchased a farm northeast of Fairmont and lovingly shared their home with her mother, Anna, until her death in 1967. She lived close to her sister, Lillian Arbuck and family, sharing the joy of their children, Jean and Richard. She also traveled to her brother Mike's home to visit with Mike, Fanny, Bernard and Robert. She also helped with housework and canning in both homes. In 1979, she and Charles retired and bought a new home in Fairmont. They missed the farm life, but they enjoyed playing cards, going to dances and visiting their friends. Her jovial manner will always be remembered as well her hospitality when company came. She and Charles were admitted to Fairveiw Manor in February of 1989. Mayme was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Jr., on May 21, 1991; her parents, Anna and Joseph; her sister, Lillian Arbuck; a brother-in-law, Carl Carbuck; brother Mike Zeleny, and sister-in-law, Francis Zeleny. She is survived by a niece, Jean (Billy) Jacobsen; nephews, Robert Zeleny and wife Diane; Bernard Zeleny and wife Lorene and Richard Arbuck and wife Deanna; by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, great nieces and nephews; cousins and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer Funeral Home in Exeter on Wednesday, March 29, with Dick Bauer officiating. Michael Zeleny provided music before and after the service. A taped song "Going Home" in Czech by national Music Systems was played during the service. Casekt bearers were Michael Zeleney, Jeffrey Zeleny, James Zeleny, David Zeleny, Jack Slocum Jr., Randy Jensen, Michael Motis and Douglas Motis. Interment was in the Fairmont Public Cemetery.
