Description	:	Maynard Oliver Walen was born April 12, 1928 on the family farm near Glenfield, ND, the son of Henry and Ellen (Vestvig) Walen. He grew up and attended school there. He married Donna Lou Ashland June 10,in Cooperstown, ND. They started their life together on a farmstead near his childhood home, where they had three beloved children, Renee, Myron and Cheryl. Read More	Maynard Oliver Walen was born April 12, 1928 on the family farm near Glenfield, ND, the son of Henry and Ellen (Vestvig) Walen. He grew up and attended school there. He married Donna Lou Ashland June 10,in Cooperstown, ND. They started their life together on a farmstead near his childhood home, where they had three beloved children, Renee, Myron and Cheryl. The couple farmed there until the fall of 1968 when they moved to Cooperstown, ND. Maynard drove bulk truck for Farmer’s Oil for several years before retiring. Although Maynard moved to Cooperstown to work and raise his family he often returned to his farm. There he spent his days farming, repairing equipment and collecting odds and ends. Few things in life were more important to Maynard than his family. He cherished family gatherings and holidays where he could tell stories and reminisce about past memories. He dearly loved his wife, children and grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, he also thought the world of his brothers and sisters. Maynard had a strong faith in God and was humble in his worship. He passed away Sunday, April 19, 2009 in the Cooperstown Medical Center in Cooperstown, ND surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Donna Lou, Cooperstown, ND; one son, Myron (Karlene) Walen, Anthem, AZ; two daughters, Renee (Larry) Gustafson, Fargo, ND, Cheryl (Don) Vigesaa, Cooperstown, ND; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one brother, Albert (Barbara) Walen, Fargo, ND; one sister, Alice Briss, Cooperstown, ND. Preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ellen, two sisters, Ella Larson and Levina Klein; two brothers, Harry and August and an infant brother, Selmer Lewis and one grandson, Jeremy. Funeral Services will be Wed. April 22, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cooperstown, ND. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 till 7:00 in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home in Cooperstown, ND and one hour before services in the church. Prayer Service will be held Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be Wed. at 2:00 pm in the Glenfield Cemetery, Glenfield, ND.
