Description	:	McDowell was born at Poplar Hill, Casey County, Kentucky. When he was eight years old the family moved to Kansas and settled near Circleville, Jackson County, Kansas. In 1886 the family moved to Ontario, Kansas. On Aug. 11, 1895 he married Louria Alpha 'Lou' Reed, daughter of Peter & Sarah Elizabeth (Hon) Reed. After their marriage they moved to a farm just south of Bancroft, Kansas. They rented the farm until 1897 when they purchased the farm. McDowell was a farmer and a stockman. When he was eight years old the family moved to Kansas and settled near Circleville, Jackson County, Kansas. In 1886 the family moved to Ontario, Kansas. On Aug. 11, 1895 he married Louria Alpha 'Lou' Reed, daughter of Peter & Sarah Elizabeth (Hon) Reed. After their marriage they moved to a farm just south of Bancroft, Kansas. They rented the farm until 1897 when they purchased the farm. McDowell was a farmer and a stockman. In early 1908 he began as mail carrier on the only rural route out of the Bancroft Post Office. He was later transferred to the Goff Post Office, rural route No. 3. He used a horse & buggy at the start and made many trips on horseback and even on foot when mud and snow made any other means impossible. He retired in June 1936. McDowell was a member and former Master of the Masonic Lodge No. 430 in Goff, Kansas, a member of the M.W.A and the Odd Fellows Lodge at Bancroft.
