| Description | : | John & Mearna were swept away by a tornado that struck their farm home in Elk Precinct near Cornell, Rawlins Co. KS, leaving nothing but the cellar in the ground. The 5 children (ages 15 to 2 - Mildred, Martha, Elmer, Dean and Paul) were sent to the cellar, but John and Mearna hadn't gone down themselves yet when the tornado hit.
