Description	:	Medford Barry was born December 29, 1923 at the family farm outside Malmo, NE and passed away January 5, 2007 at the Saunders County Care Center, Wahoo, NE. On September 28, 1947 he married Dorothy Norma Holtorf in Malmo, NE to this union were born his daughter Phyllis and son Eldon. Dorothy died November 30, 1958. Read More	Medford Barry was born December 29, 1923 at the family farm outside Malmo, NE and passed away January 5, 2007 at the Saunders County Care Center, Wahoo, NE. On September 28, 1947 he married Dorothy Norma Holtorf in Malmo, NE to this union were born his daughter Phyllis and son Eldon. Dorothy died November 30, 1958. On March 19, 1960 he married Elsie Marie Gosch. With Elsie he had sons Dan and Daryl. He was baptized at 1st Presbyterian Church in Wahoo in January 1924 by Rev. E. J. Nickerson. He attended rural District #75 elementary school, Malmo High School for 9th and 10th grade and then graduated from Wahoo High School in 1941 where he was a member of the band. As an active member of his community, he served 12 years on the 1st Presbyterian Church Board of Trustees and later as Elder. From 1948 to 1978 he was a school board member, first for District #88 and then District #75. He served 8 years on Governor Morrisonís State School Reorganization Committee representing the 23rd legislative district. He was a member of Wahoo Lodge #59 A.F. & A.M., a past Worthy Patron of Stella Chapter #57 Order of the Eastern Star, and a past High Priest of Wahoo Chapter #43 of the Royal Arch Masons. A World War II veteran, he was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Hawaii during 1945-46. He was a 50+ year member of the American Legion and served in many post offices, Saunders County and District 7 Commanders, Area B Vice Commander, Department Convention Committee, and as Senior Vice Commander of the Nebraska American Legion. He was a past Chef de Gare of Voiture 1018 of the 40&8. As a lifelong farmer in Saunders County, he served as a board member and president of the county Farm Bureau. He was a charter member of the Saunders County Pork Producers and was a member of the Saunders County Feeders Association. He was proud to still own his first tractor (Farmall ëMë), purchased in 1947 after returning home from the Marines, and liked to point out that it took only 900 bushels of corn to purchase that tractor new. He was preceded in death by his parents Luella (Jurgens) and Oscar E. Barry, his first wife Dorothy (Holtorf) Barry, and his brother Ivan Barry. He is survived by his wife Elsie, children: Phyllis (Martin) LaForte, Canton, MI, Eldon Barry, Colon, NE, Dan (Susan) Barry, Racine, WI, and Daryl Barry, Lincoln, NE. Grand children Russell LaForte, Lansing, MI, and Chris LaForte, W. Palm Beach, FL, Tatiana and Victoria Barry, Racine, WI, and by his brother Glenn (Sally) Barry, Lansing, MI, and sister Imogene (Alan) Mebane, Sammamish, WA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Patrick Marshall officiating. Masonic Funeral Services will be conducted by Wahoo Lodge #59 A.F. & A.M. Casket bearers will be Russell LaForte, Christophe LaForte, Christopher Mebane, Tim Barry, Tom Holtorf and Randall Holtorf. Visitation will be Monday, 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Sunrise Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors conducted by Malmo American Legion Post #232. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, Malmo American Legion Post #232, or to the Voiture 1018-40&8 Nurseís Fund.
