Description	:	Melba Kix, age 87, of Hubbard, IA, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018 at her home. Melba Ann (Engelking) Kix was born July 23, 1931, at 11:00 AM to Walter and Velma Engelking on a farm north of Hubbard, IA and died on August 17, 2018 at her home in Hubbard at the age of 87 years. Melba Ann (Engelking) Kix was born July 23, 1931, at 11:00 AM to Walter and Velma Engelking on a farm north of Hubbard, IA and died on August 17, 2018 at her home in Hubbard at the age of 87 years. She was the oldest of two children. Melba attended country school in Tipton Township and graduated from Hubbard High School in 1948. She was involved in many music activities including both band and choir. Melba worked for 1½ years after graduation at the Security State Bank. On August 24, 1949, she was united in marriage to Frederick William Kix, a farmer south of town, by Rev. Arthur Kruetzman. They were blessed with four children: Kathy, John, Steven, and Deb. Melba was baptized by Rev. Bizer at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Hubbard and was confirmed there by Rev. Rumph and was a lifelong member of Zion United Church of Christ. At age of 13 she started playing the piano and continued for 33 years being an accompanist on the piano and organ. Other church activities included Women’s Sextet, Women’s Guild, Sunday School teacher and a member of the Women’s Executive Council. Fred and Melba were Zion Youth Fellowship sponsors as well. Melba loved living on the farm. Her activities included farming right along the side of her husband Fred doing the field work and taking care of the livestock and her chickens for many years. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, fishing, attending her children and grandchildren’s activities, playing cards, dancing, and singing. Melba and Fred sang at many wedding and funerals together. On August 24, 2009 Fred and Melba celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with her family and friends. Melba was a loving hardworking mom and was adored by her grandkids and great-grandkids. Her most precious moments were when her family would come together and celebrate birthdays and holidays, where she was known for her homemade potato salad and deviled eggs. Those remaining to cherish her memory include two daughters, Kathy (Mark) Muhs of Perry, IA and Deb (Kevin) Eilbeck of Marion, IA; two sons, John (Joy) Kix and Steven (Joyce) Kix, of Hubbard, IA; 12 grand-children and 25 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Melba was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Velma, husband Fred, sister Mary Perkins and grandson Christopher Muhs.
