Description	:	Melbert C. Rasmussen, age 98, of Hartington, NE died on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral Services will be on Friday, August 22, 2008 at 10:30 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington with Rev. Bob Bryan officiating. Burial will be in the Obert Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Melbert was born on December 1, 1909 at Ponca, NE to Nels and Christianne (Jensen) Rasmussen. He grew up on a farm east of Hartington and attended Lone Valley School. He married Ethel Stolpe on November 19, 1938 at Maskell, NE. They farmed east of Hartington until moving into Hartington in 1982. They were members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Obert until 1967 when they transferred to Trinity Lutheran in Hartington. Melbert and Ethel received the Oldest Living Couple award at Hartington's Quasquicentennial celebration in May of this year. Melbert is survived by his wife, Ethel of Hartington, 2 children; Dennis and Sandra Rasmussen of Clearwater, Florida, Lisa Robb of Carmel, Indiana, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 infant sons, 6 brothers; Levi, Oswald, Harry, Herbert, Ransom, and Norman Rasmussen, and 2 sisters; Anna McCracken and Gertrude Noirot.
