He was born July 8,1922 in Ford County, Kansas , the son of George and Minnie (Schawe) Peintner. He served in the United States Navy during WWII attaining the rank of Seaman First Class and received his Masters from Wichita State University. Read More	KINSLEY, KS.-- Melfred "Mel" Peintner, 95, died Saturday, December 9,2017 at Medicolodge in Kinsley, Kansas. He was born July 8,1922 in Ford County, Kansas , the son of George and Minnie (Schawe) Peintner. He served in the United States Navy during WWII attaining the rank of Seaman First Class and received his Masters from Wichita State University. He was a teacher, farmer and marriage counselor as well as a bowling alley manager and at one time had a gum ball machine route. Mel was a character. No question was to personal or out of left field for discussion. He wanted to know what you were thinking and why. An amazing athlete, he played baseball, football, basketball, boxed and was a lifelong bowler. He took care of his physique to the end. He read extensively and wanted to discuss what he read with you. He was a free spirit, kind and naive. He will be remembered and loved by those who knew him. He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City, Kansas. On November 24, 1947 he married Jean Marie Gasser at St. Nicholas Church in Kinsley, Kansas. She preceded him in death on October 6,2017. Survivors include his son, Brian Peintner , Dodge City; and 2 grandchildren, Dustin and Del Vincent Cloke. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Clayton , Don and Harold and 2 sisters, Bernadine Kallaus and Marieta Fairless. Rosary at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 13,2017 in the Daily Mass Chapel at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am Wednesday at the church with Fr. Aneesh Parappanattu presiding. Burial at 2:00 pm at Holy Cross Cemetery, Windthorst with military honors by Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714 and the United States Navy. Memorials suggested to Windthorst Heritage, Inc. or the Cathedral of our Lady of Guadalupe both in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel.
