She was born May 13, 1958, in Charleston, W.Va., the daughter of the late Mary Irene Sowers Danner and the late Donald Lewis Danner. She was the wife of Norman, her loving partner, mate and best friend for more than 27 years. She was born May 13, 1958, in Charleston, W.Va., the daughter of the late Mary Irene Sowers Danner and the late Donald Lewis Danner. She was the wife of Norman, her loving partner, mate and best friend for more than 27 years. Together they lived their lives to the fullest each day while sharing many wonderful journeys and experiences. She grew up on Rosemont Drive, outside of Brunswick. Melissa graduated from Brunswick High School and from Eastern Mennonite University with a B.S. in nursing. She was a gifted and talented nurse, practicing for more than 28 years. She began her career at Frederick Memorial Hospital in 1981, where she met her beloved Norman. Following their marriage in 1984, they moved to Delray Beach, Fla., where she worked at Boca Raton Community Hospital for 10 years. They then moved to Charleston, S.C., where she continued hospital nursing for 13 years. Most of her nursing career was in intermediate cardiac care. Her personal reward, skill in and love of nursing was focused on caring for her patients and fellow staff with her gentle touch and calming being. Returning to Frederick, she went back to FMH, working in the peri-operative area. The support she received from her nursing teams was phenomenal. Working allowed Missy to be fulfilled in the ability to continue her profession of helping and caring for others, while on her own cancer journey. Missy had a basic creed, "Do no harm, do good, and stay in love with God." She chose to live with cancer and not let it define her life. Missy loved to meet and accept people, decorate and manage the homes she and Norm shared, love her family and friends, and always, always to care for her Norm. Missy was raised in the Christian faith starting in the Church of the Brethren, graduating from a Mennonite University, worshiping in the Episcopal Church with her husband, and finally finding a home at Brook Hill United Methodist Church. Missy had a deep and abiding love for the Lord Jesus, sharing that relationship with all around her. Her church, community, work and families meant so much to her. In addition to her loving husband, Norman, she is survived by three sisters and their spouses, Vanessa and Byron Guyton of Burkittsville, Marty and Richard Gue of Frederick, and Beth and Phil Guyton of Myersville. Other family includes brother-in-law, Michael, and Ann Ross of Bar Harbor, Maine, and sister-in law, Claudia, and Dave Overway, of Panama City, Fla. Missy also has numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She found great joy in sending and receiving cards, notes and e-mails, with a Christmas, friend and birthday list of more than 400 people. Her family wishes to extend a special thanks to Kanan Hudhud and all the staff at the Cancer Care Center for their excellent care and support. Additionally, many members of the FMH staff, members of the Brook Hill Church, her former school- mates, fellow nurses, neighbors and care givers greatly touched her heart. There will be a celebration of her life and death at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, at Brook Hill United Methodist Church, 8946 Indian Springs Road, Frederick. The Rev. Linda Warhime will officiate. Please dress in the manner in which you knew Missy. Those wishing to honor Missy's spirit, life and love are encouraged to do so by contributing to a scholarship fund for nursing students named in her honor. Charitable donations marked "Melissa Ross, RN" can be sent c/o The Community Foundation of Frederick County, 312 E. Church St., Frederick, MD 21701. Interment with immediate family will be at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Burkittsville, and at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor, Maine, with additional ashes cast gently over the water.
