The following additional information was provided by Find A Grave contributor Don/Cindy Morris Rust She married Joseph Edward Harshbarger on May 17, 1894 in Greene Co., Iowa. She was born December 31, 1867, in Marion Co., IA, a daughter of George Willard Proffitt and Charlotte Smith. She died July 3, 1950 in Great Falls, Cascade Co., MT, and buried in the New Highland Cemetery. Effie was the first girl born, Orpha was the second girl born about May 1898 in Montana, and the third girl was Georgia born in 1901 in Montana. She married Harold J. Geiger and they lived in Oakland, California at the time of deaths of her parents. They have a son, John H. Geiger born about 1923 in CA. .......... The following provided by Find A Grave contributor "Cara": The River Press, Fort Benton, Mont., 12 July 1950 Former Resident Dead Many Chouteau county friends will be sorry to learn of the death of Mrs. Melissa Harshbarger, 86, who passed away in a hospital at Great Falls the fore part of last week with funeral services being there Friday afternoon. Burial was in Highland cemetery. Mrs. Harshbarger was born Dec. 31, 1863, at Pleasantville, Iowa. With her husband, Edward, she came Montana in 1910 and settled in Chouteau county, taking up a homestead northwest of Fort Benton where they resided until 1942 when they retired and moved to Great Falls to make their home. Mrs. Harshbarger was in poor health at the time of retirement and has been sick since that time. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Fritz Norby, of Great Falls, Mrs. H. J. Geiger, Oakland, Calif.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The relatives have the sympathy of all Chouteau county in their bereavement.
