Description	:	Funeral services for Mellon Vance Cox,93, pioneer citizen, businessman and civic leader of Hemingway, will be conducted at 11am Wednesday in Morris Funeral Home by Rev. Lynn Corbett,Rev Charles Moore and Rev. C.H. Bouldard. Burial will be in the Old Johnsonville Cemetery. Mr. Cox died Monday afternoon in a Conway Hospital. Mr. Cox was the son of the late John Richard and Amanda Gaskins Cox. Pallbearers will be the following grandsons: Lofton Cox, David L, Cox, Reed C. Tanner,C.D. Huggins,Harry Huggins, Thomas Huggins, Bill Nesmith and Vance Nesmith. Mr. Cox was born in Florence County in 1876. In 1898 he married the late Lilla Perena Ard and established a home in Hemingway. He was a retired farmer and merchant. At one time he was postmaster of Venter's Post Office. He was superintendant of Old Johnsonville Church for 20 years and served as a steward for a number of years. He was a chairman of the board of trustees of the former Old Johnsonville school district. In recent years, he had been selected "Outstanding Man of the Year" for Hemingway. He is survived by two sons: J. Articus Cox and Richard Lofton Cox, Sr. both of Hemingway, and six daughters: Mrs. Charlie (Nena) Huggins, Miss Miriam Cox, Mrs. Peggy Wimberly, all of Hemingway, Mrs. Bill (Iva) Northington, Mrs Reed (Corrine) Tanner both of Kingstree and Mrs. Willard (Pearl) Nesmith of Nesmith. One sister, Mrs. Eugene A. Taylor, Sr., 23 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
