Condolences may be sent to the family at www.goettschonline.com Survivors include three sons, Don (Kathleen) Barnes, Edwin (Nancy) Barnes both of Anamosa, Gary (Kris) Barnes of Central City; six daughters, Nancy (Lorance) Weers, Joyce (Leonard) Stutt both of Anamosa, Betty (Gerald) Dirks of Monticello, Glenda (Duane) Grant of Central City, Kathy (Carl) Clang of Metamora, Illinois, Susanne (Carl) Offerman of Anamosa; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Earl Barnes and Joseph Wright; two brothers, Wayne Pavin and an infant brother Ralph and three sisters, Ruth Pavin, Gladys Bruce, Eleanor Farrington. Melvie was born May 28, 1914 at Anamosa. She attended the rural Anamosa schools. On April 3, 1933 she married Earl Barnes. Melvie worked at the Reliance shirt factory in Anamosa. The couple moved to the farm in Linn County in 1945. Earl died in 1962 and Melvie continued to run the farm until 1974. She moved to Arizona during the winter months and on January 10th, 1986 she married Joseph Wright in Tucson, Arizona. She was baptized on October 8, 1994 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church by Rev. Jerry Egel. She was a member of St. Paul's Ladies Circle, and was secretary of Wagons West retirement Village in Arizona. She was very active in crafts, fishing, bowling, cards, and upholstery. She was a marvelous cook and she enjoyed her church. The family would like to extend a thank you to Amenity Hospice and a special thank you to Lolly Burger with Amenity Hospice. Memorials may be given in Melvie's name to St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Anamosa.
