The very short illness of Mr Fuller hardly prepared his friends and relatives for the sad news of his death, although they were warned of his dangerous condition as soon as he was compelled to take to his bed, a few days prior to his decease. Mr Fuller was the only child of the late Stephen and Rebecca Fuller, the former of whom died in Westernport Feb 4, 1892 and the latter Jan. 5, 1890, both of whom had long resided among us and being well known and highly respected by a very large circle of acquaintances. Mr Melville Fuller was born at Petersburg, Pa., January 5, 1846. After and elementray education in the common schools, Mr Fuller took a thorough course and training at Merchants College, Pittsburg, Pa, graduating with honors and with a diploma testifying to his completion of the work in the line of a practical book-keeper. While a boy, Mr Fuller had gotten a glimpse of business life and work with Miller Bros of Westernport serving for a time in the store there. At the completion of his college training he spent ten years of more as a practical salesman in Pittsburg, then held for a while a position under the general govenment coming nineteen years ago to Piedmont as "cashier" for the railroad under Capt. C. A. Woodward, agent.As an accountant and general book-keeper he perhaps. had no superior and when Capt Woodward retired, Mr Fuller was at once made agent for the company at Piedmont and placed in sole charge of the road's interest at this place. He was rated first class by his employees in every respect and did full justice to every interest of his vast concern placed under him. Mr Fuller was in politics a Democrat, holding a respected place in the councils of his party in Allegany county. Md, he residing continuiously in Westernport. Some years ago he was the choice of his party for clerk of the Circuit Court of Allegany county, and polled his party's strength at election time, his opponent being Mr Theo. Luman, of Cumberland. June 18, 1882, the deceased married Miss Ida Frances Pagenhardt, daughter of Mr Chas. A. Pagenhardt of Westernport, and who survivies him as do also three children, Melville 11 years of age, Althea 8 years and Stephen 7 years. One child (Cleveland) is dead. He was a member of St Johns M.E. Church, South, of Piedmont, and was at the time of his death the chairman of the Board of Stewards, the last quarterly conference of the charge having elected him to that position, though he had been a mmember of the Board sometime before. He was connnected also with the Relief Department of the B&O. Mr Fuller's illness dates back some twelve month's of more but nothing in his condition was considered serious and not until eleven days before his death did he lay off from duty and was only confined to his bed about eight days. It was recognized that the disease from which he was suffering was Bright's Disease of the kidneys and all hope of his recovery was abandoned. He passed away Tuesday morning the 20th. The funeral was conducted Thursday with interment in Philos Cemetery.
