On May 3, 1948, he was united in marriage to Adeline Wahl. They were married for 61 years and had six children. Melvin worked for Jardine's Construction and for Swingen's Construction. Melvin was born in Goodrich, ND to Fred and Eva (Schick) Almer on March 19, 1925. On May 3, 1948, he was united in marriage to Adeline Wahl. They were married for 61 years and had six children. Melvin worked for Jardine's Construction and for Swingen's Construction. He started out as a construction laborer and worked his way up to supervisor before retiring from Swingen's after a 40 year career in construction and bridgework. After he retired, he could often be seen riding his bike around West Fargo collecting cans, one of his favorite hobbies. He also enjoyed spending time at Golden Eagle campground in Perham where he spent time with his family. Melvin also enjoyed watching his TV programs, reading his Bible, singing hymns and listening to gospel music. Ten years ago he moved to Fargo to live with his son where he could be cared for and looked after. Melvin loved his family. He didn't always have much to say but when he spoke, it was to share his experiences and wisdom. He will be greatly missed. Melvin is survived by his children; Phyllis (Frank) Baumgardner, Ron Almer, Dorothy (Larry) Kraft, Rick (Sara) Almer, Vicki (Art) Eberhardt and Terry (Tara) Almer. He is also survived by his brother, Willis (Jenny) Almer along with 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his granddaughter, Taryn Baumgardner and his brothers and sisters; Edwin, Herbert, Floyd, Ida Keebler, and Adeline Bennett.
