Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Arkansas City. Father Charles Seiwert and Father Bernard Gorges will celebrate. Melvin was born May 21, 1933, to Peter C. Leiker and Amelia (Ruder) Leiker in Ness City. He graduated from St. Joseph's Military Academy in Hays and received his bachelor's degree from Ft. Hays State University. Melvin served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On May 22, 1961, he married Mary A. Leiker in Russell, Kan. The couple made their home in Hays, and Phoenix, Ariz. In 1964, they made their home in Arkansas City. Melvin worked for General Adjusters Bureau and the State of Kansas. Melvin was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Arkansas City, the American Legion and the V.F.W. Survivors include his wife, Mary Leiker of the home; son, Greg Robl, of Shawnee, Okla.; three daughters, Linda Lewman, Rae Ann Dempsey and her husband, Jim, all of Apache Junction, Ariz., Melissa Van Sickle and her husband, David, of Winfield; brother, Delbert Leiker and his wife, Delores, of Hays; sisters, Sister Cecilia Leiker, of Wichita, Florentine Schuckman, of Hays, and Angeline Leiker, of Oklahoma City; sister-in-law, Georgine Leiker, of Colby; 11 grandchildren, Daren Lewman, Marci Stover, Amanda Ball, Sybil Stevenson, Chad Robl, Shandi Hilburn, Erica Love, Daniel Clark, Michael Van Sickle and Alexandra Van Sickle; and 17 great-grandchildren.
