Description	:	U.S. ARMY VETERAN Melvin August DeMarteleare was born August 20, 1928 at Marshall,Minnesota to August and Gertrude Julia (Beever) DeMarteleare. He grew up in the Minneota, Minnesota and Flandreau, South Dakota commjunities. Following his schooling, he worked on farms in the Flandreau area. He served in the Army from 1946-1948. He married Betty Lou Hegerfeld May 24, 1948 at Elkton, South Dakota. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1950 where he worked as a trucker for Frank Willers and Dan Dugan. He grew up in the Minneota, Minnesota and Flandreau, South Dakota commjunities. Following his schooling, he worked on farms in the Flandreau area. He served in the Army from 1946-1948. He married Betty Lou Hegerfeld May 24, 1948 at Elkton, South Dakota. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1950 where he worked as a trucker for Frank Willers and Dan Dugan. They moved to the Elkton area in 1960. He farmed until 1968 when once again he worked as a trucker, operating his own truck since 1976. Melvin loved his family and trucking. He especially enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends at Rentschler's Truck Stop in Sioux Falls, a place affectionately called his office. Survivors include his wife, three sons, Dave of Sioux Falls, Keith and his wife Linda of Lake Preston and Kevin of Sioux Falls; three daughters, Mrs. Dean (Georgia) Lang of Gillette, Wyoming, Mrs. Tom (Michelle) Steufen and Pennie DeMarteleare of Elkton; 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, his mother, Gertrude DeMarteleare; and one sister, Janet Huston of Peoria, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his father and his infant twin brother. Military graveside rites were provided by the American Legion Glen Stafford Post 198. Eidsness Funeral Chapel assisted the family with funeral arrangements. Interment was at the Elkton City Cemetery, Elkton, South Dakota.
