Description	:	Melvin Charles Bohner, 69, of Clarksville, died Monday, Jan. 4, at Florida Hospital, Zephyrhills, Florida, from natural causes. He was born March 24, 1940, in Butler County, near Dumont, Iowa. He was the son of Charles and Grace (Tjebkes) Bohner. Mr. Bohner graduated from Clarksville High School in 1958 and later attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa and Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. To this union five children were born. Mel... Read More	Melvin Charles Bohner, 69, of Clarksville, died Monday, Jan. 4, at Florida Hospital, Zephyrhills, Florida, from natural causes. He was born March 24, 1940, in Butler County, near Dumont, Iowa. He was the son of Charles and Grace (Tjebkes) Bohner. Mr. Bohner graduated from Clarksville High School in 1958 and later attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa and Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He married Carolyn Schmidt on Aug. 14, 1960 at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville, Iowa. The couple made their home in Clarksville and Waverly for over 49 years. To this union five children were born. Mel began working for Farm Bureau in 1967, retiring in 2007 after 40 years of service. He and Carolyn enjoyed traveling all over the world with many friends through Farm Bureau. He retired in March of 2007 after 40 years of service. He loved being around people and cherished the friendships he had made throughout the years. Although much anticipated, the day he retired was still a sad one for him. In his free time, Mel enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan with over 20 years of season tickets to the football games. Mel also enjoyed managing his cattle herd, fishing and a good joke. He always had a smile on his face and loved to make others laugh as well. One of his greatest joys was time spent with his family. All of his grandchildren were very special to him. Mel was extremely proud of his Army Ranger grandson, Dereck and the service he has provided to his country. Mel is survived by his wife, Carolyn; three sons, Mark of LeMars, Michael (special friend Corinne) of Cedar Rapids and Matthew of Clarksville; two daughters, Nancy (Kenny) Kappmeyer and Kim Bohner, both of Waverly; and nine grandchildren; Dereck Bohner, Kyle Kappmeyer; Sarah, Blake and Lauren Bohner; AnCara, Darrion, Sierra and Capri Rabatach. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Audrey Bergman. A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 10 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly where he was a member. Burial is in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville. Public visitation was from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Clarksville School old gymnasium and for an hour before the service on Sunday at the church. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials were directed to the family.
