Description	:	Melvin Coatsworth Cantrell, 90, formerly of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, March 3, 2007, at RoseCrest. Born January 21, 1917, in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late John Augustus Cantrell and Margaret (Goforth) Cantrell and the husband of the late Evelyn (Kearse) Cantrell. A graduate of Clemson University, he was the co-owner of L. D. Cantrell Plumbing and was a former school teacher. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years and was a former choir member. He was a Mason and loved to hunt, fish, and play golf.... Born January 21, 1917, in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late John Augustus Cantrell and Margaret (Goforth) Cantrell and the husband of the late Evelyn (Kearse) Cantrell. A graduate of Clemson University, he was the co-owner of L. D. Cantrell Plumbing and was a former school teacher. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years and was a former choir member. He was a Mason and loved to hunt, fish, and play golf. A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, he was the recipient of a Purple Heart and Silver Star. Survivors include two daughters, Joy Hargreaves and Margaret Cantrell, both of Spartanburg; two granddaughters, Susan Medford of Spartanburg, and Dawn Molnar of Atlanta, GA; a grandson, Kevin Hargreaves of Spartanburg; and three great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Graveside services with full military rites were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely. The family received friends following the service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morningside Baptist Church, 892 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
