He had two children, one an infant son who died, and another, Ethel Louise Welch, who married Merlin Miller and Armion Schuler. ********************************** The Bismarck Tribune, 04 Feb 1931, Wednesday 25-YEAR-OLD LOCAL MAN DROPS DEAD AT WORK MSYSTERIOUSLY Melvin Welch Stricken in Bismarck Dairy Plant; Death Cause Uncertain Melvin Welch, 25-year-old employe(e) of the Bismarck Dairy company, dropped dead in the company plant at noon Wednesday. Dr. R. A. Graber, who arrived at the scene eight minutes after the man was stricken, said the cause of death apparently was heart disease. Welch had complained to fellow employe(e)s Wednesday morning of not feeling well, saying that every bone in his body seemed to ache. Death apparently was instantaneous, the attending physician announcing him dead when he examined him eight minutes after the attack. Welch leaves his widow and a three-weeks-old infant. He also leaves a number of other relatives in Bismarck and the vicinity. He had been in the employ of the dairy company for nine years, according to J. P. Spies, president of the company. Dr. Graber will perform an autopsy late Wednesday afternoon to determine the exact cause of death. Welsh apparently had been in good health for some time prior to his death, relatives said, and had been working regularly at the dairy company. He never had complained of any ailment and his sudden death came as a shock to his family. Dr. Graber did not comment on the cause of death, saying that he had been called in after the man was dead. He declined to say whether or not the cause of death might have been caused by influenza and stated that after the autopsy he would be in a position to make a statement. ******************************** The Bismarck Tribune, 06 Feb 1931, Friday Welch Services Will Be Held at Glencoe Funeral services for Melvin Welch, Bismarck man who dropped dead Wednesday afternoon, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Glencoe church south of Bismarck, Rev. Walter Vader, pastor of the McCabe Methodist Episcopal church officiating. The funeral party will leave the Webb chapel at 2 o'clock Sunday and will proceed to the Glencoe church. Pallbearers have been selected from his fellow workers at the Bismarck Dairy company. They are John Brazerole, Lyle Cleveland, William Miller, Charles Weismiller, Walter Burkart and Mike Marbeck. Welch, who was 25 years old at the time of his death, leaves a widow and a three weeks old child as well as numerous relatives in Bismarck and the vicinity. He was brought up in Bismarck by his grandmother, Mrs. O. A. Cordon, who adopted him at the death of his mother 24 years ago. During his school days in Bismarck he was generally known as "Corky" Cordon. He will be buried beside the grave of his mother at the Glencoe cemetery. ********************************** The Bismarck Tribune, 14 Feb 1931, Saturday BRITTIN The entire community was greatly shocked Wednesday afternoon to hear of the sudden death of Melvin Welch, son of John Welch of Menoken.
