Melvin Thomsen was born July 5, 1916 near Wyoming, the son of Meinhardt and Alice Ireland Thomsen. He received his education and graduated from Wyoming High School in 1933. On Feb. 18, 1947, he married Jean Dearborn at Stone City, IA. He was a lifelong farmer in the Wyoming area. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Baldwin, where he also served as a trustee. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus of Anamosa, and had served on the board of directors of the Citizen State Bank in Wyoming for 20 years. Survivors include his wife, Jean; a daughter, Monica (Mrs. Cliff) Hinkhouse of West Liberty; two sons, Mark of Roseville, MN, and Terry of Perry, IA: five grandchildren and a brother, John Thomsen of Wyoming. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Hayden Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
