Description	:	Melvin Dale Holmes was born Sept. 4, 1905 south of Deshler, Nebraska and departed this life in his home near Deshler on Nov. 16, 1940 aged 35 years, 2 months and 12 days. His mother preceded him in death in 1911. At the age of 15 on Sept. 26, 1920 he united with the Chester Christian Church and has been a member until death. On July 26, 1930 he was united in marriage to Miss Iola Gunnison of Republic City, Kansas at Belleville, Kansas. To this union two children were born, Alice now 9 years of age and Harold 6 years. His mother preceded him in death in 1911. At the age of 15 on Sept. 26, 1920 he united with the Chester Christian Church and has been a member until death. On July 26, 1930 he was united in marriage to Miss Iola Gunnison of Republic City, Kansas at Belleville, Kansas. To this union two children were born, Alice now 9 years of age and Harold 6 years. During the last year Melvin has been ill and confined to his home most of the time. He leaves to mourn, his wife and children, his father, Elmer Holmes and wife Mrs. Anna Holmes, who has been a devoted mother, one brother Harry Merle Holmes, of Deshler and one sister, Mrs. Ralph Johnson of Gravity, Iowa. Besides the immediate family he leaves many other relatives and a host of friends. A good father, husband, neighbor and has gone the way of all the earth. Services were conducted in the Chester Christian Church, Nov. 19, 1940 by Harold A. Reed, Pastor. Interment was made in the Chester Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Theodore Tietjen, Elmer Mosier, Fredrick Duensing, Vernon Naysmith, Roland Pohlmann and Joe Duey. CROSSING THE BAR Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me.
