Description	:	MELVIN DEAN "MEL" MEYER was born November 2, 1939, to Ted and Alice (Schulzkamp) Meyer on the farm homestead four miles northwest of Uehling, Nebraska. He passed away Friday, December 16, 2011 at Arbor Manor in Fremont, Nebraska, where he has resided for the past year. Mel was 72 years of age. Mel lived his lifetime near and in Uehling. Read More	MELVIN DEAN "MEL" MEYER was born November 2, 1939, to Ted and Alice (Schulzkamp) Meyer on the farm homestead four miles northwest of Uehling, Nebraska. He passed away Friday, December 16, 2011 at Arbor Manor in Fremont, Nebraska, where he has resided for the past year. Mel was 72 years of age. Mel lived his lifetime near and in Uehling. He received his education at country school, District No. 40. He attended Oakland High School and in his senior year transferred to Uehling, graduating from Uehling High School. Mel worked at the Walt Weitzenkamp farm after graduation and then farmed the home place for several years. He purchased the SuperSweet business in Uehling and became the maintenance man for the Village of Uehling. On July 27, 1968, Mel married Judy Johnson of Uehling at St. John's Lutheran Church. They made their home in or near Uehling. Mel served 30+ years on the Uehling Volunteer Fire Dept. , on the rural board for the Fire Dept and as fire chief for 5+ years. He was well known in Uehling riding around visiting with people on his golf cart with his dog, Spike running alongside. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Alice Meyer and in-laws, Hans and Gertrude Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Judy of Uehling; sons, Robert "Bobby" and Danny Meyer of Oakland, Nebraska; daughter, Tammy (Jason) Muessel of Prague, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Zach and Alley Muessel of Prague, Isaac Hill of Fremont; sisters, Glenice (LeRoy) Eastberg of Uehling, Debbie (Charlie) Krutilek of Decatur, Nebraska; aunt Verona Vogel of Battlecreek, Nebraska. FUNERAL SERVICE: Wednesday, December 21, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Uehling, Nebraska. VISITATION: Tuesday 4 - 8 pm. with the family receiving friends from 6 - 8 p.m. and a 7:00 p.m. PRAYER SERVICE all at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Wednesday visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. BURIAL: Uehling Cemetery MEMORIALS: Uehling Fire and Rescue (He is buried next to his parents, Ted and Alice)
