Two boys who have held this position with the company are dead. One boy was killed by being crushed under the wheels of a heavy truck early last week and the last Saturday Melvin Dooley, the other water boy was found dead near the windmill on the William Balheim place. Dooley is believed to have been the victim of heart attack or to have drank an excessive quantity of cold water while in an overheated condition. Just before the men on the paving crew quit work Friday evening he had carried his five gallon water pail down to the windmill for the last refill. It was to have been the very last time he would make the trip, since less than half-hour's work remained to be done on the paving job. Balheim was out in his fields when he noticed the fan of his windmill revolving. Knowing that he had not left it in gear the night before, he hastened to the windmill to see what had happened. The body of the boy lay outstretched on the ground, where it had been throughout Friday night's downpour. A physician could find no marks of violence. Any theory of robbery was further disproved by the presence of a watch and a dollar bill in the pockets of the boy when the body was found. Melvin left home Friday morning with both dinner and supper in his lunch basket, since it had been announced the crew would work that day until the job was completed. When the boy failed to appear by nightfall, however, the parents became anxious, and Mr. Dooley drove out to the scene of the pavers' operations. Finding no trace of the boy he returned to town and made inquires among men on the crew but no one reported seeing the boy since he left for water at 5:30 p.m. The tragedy marked the third sudden death to members of the paving crew this summer. In addition to the deaths of the two boys, Leonard R. Haugren of Minneapolis, died as the result of a fractured verterbrae suffered while swimming on Saturday, June 8.
