He was employed as a brakeman a number of years by the North Western Railway. He was employed by the Union Pacific at Cheyenne during World War II, after which he returned to Norfolk and was employed as a taxi-cab driver. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Marvin Papstein of Gothenburg; one son, William, high school principal at Crawford; six grandchildren, and one brother, Harold of Norfolk. Nicholas, 56, 218 Monroe Ave., who died Tuesday morning, were conducted Friday afternoon at the Marshall Chapel by the Rev. Robert Ware, First Presbyterian Church minister. Music was furnished by Mrs. Carl Scheel, vocalist, and Mrs. Charles Warrick, Sr., organist. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery with the following as pallbearers: Ralph Casper, Willis Wheeler, William Niebur, Wilson Kelly, Gus Kerber and Randall Thies. Mr. Nicholas was born Sept. 12, 1899, at Norfolk, and was married 33 years ago to Miss Blanche Carrico. He was employed as a brakeman by the North Western Railraway a number of years and later as a driver by the Checker Cab Co. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Marvin Papstein of Gothenburg, one son, William, high school principal at Crawford; six grandchildren, and one brother, Harold of Norfolk.
