Melvin "Mick" Annan was born January 8, 1918, in Yorktown, Iowa, the son of Earl Annan and Nina (Loy) Annan. He was one of four children raised on the family farm east of Yorktown. He attended Yorktown Public School through the eleventh grade and graduated with the Clarinda High School class of 1935. He enjoyed 4-H, the Rural Young People's organization, and was a member of the Yorktown Methodist Church. In 1942, Mick was drafted into the United States Coast Guard and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina-three years, three months, fourteen days. He kept close contact with many of his service buddies over the years. He was united in marriage July 8, 1943 to Agnes (Peggy) Harrison of Tabor, Iowa. Mick loved the land and his livestock and took pride in farming his entire life. He was awarded Honorary Farmer for his contributions to the South Page FFA Chapter. During the late 1940's and 1950's Mick followed the harvest combining wheat from Oklahoma to North Dakota. For many years he also drove a stock truck. Mick loved company-especially during the last few years when family and friends came to play pitch. Preceding Mick in death were his parents; daughter, Maribeth Mellencamp; daughter-in-law, Vicki (Carlberg) Annan; son-in-law, Joel Wagoner; brother, George and wife Elsie Annan; sister, Irene Moore and Rex Moore; brothers-in-law, Jim Steigerwald and Bryce Harrison. Mick is survived by Peggy, his wife of 65 years; sons, Bill and wife Sara of Shenandoah, George of Coin; daughter, Nancy Wagoner of Clarinda; son-in-law, Merle Mellencamp of Clarinda; grandchildren, Jeff and wife Stephanie Barlow of New Providence, New Jersey, Steven and wife Julie Mellencamp of Chicago, Illinois, Ashley Mellencamp of St. Petersburg, Florida, Anne and Elizabeth Wagoner, Maria and Mitchell Annan; great-grandchildren, Megan and Matt Barlow, Victoria Beth Mellencamp; sister, Fern Steigerwald of Fall Brook, California; sister-in-law, Dorothy Harrison of Tabor; and brother-in-law, Carlos Harrison of Shenandoah; nieces, nephews and many friends. May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn his passing.
