Vernon, the son of Melvin Howard and Alice Vahl Rich. He attended school in Mt. Vernon and Central City. Read More	Melvin Edward Rich, 59, of Delta, died Sat., April 19, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. He was born Oct. 1, 1943, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Melvin Howard and Alice Vahl Rich. He attended school in Mt. Vernon and Central City. He was a semi driver for 25 years and worked eight years at River Products before retiring due to a back injury. He married Ruth Derby on Oct. 13, 2001, in Delta. He enjoyed fishing, boating and spending time with family, friends and their dog "Mootch". He is survived by his wife; three sons, Ed, Tim and Jim; two granddaughters; four sisters, Dorothy Bragg, Donna Pickering, Ruth Sickles and Elaine Willie; three aunts; and his father-in-law, Gene Derby. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; one nephew; one great-nephew; and his mother-in-law. Funeral services were held Sat., April 19 at the Delta Christian Church with the Rev. Paul Davidson officiating. Burial was in the Springfield Cemetery near Delta. Casket bearers were Wayne Sickles, Dick Bailey, Mike Sickles, Les Duncan, Bill Bailey and Donald Stadek.
