Description	:	Surrounded by his family, Melvin "Mel" E Fisher of East Wenatchee passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord Jesus on Father's Day, June 19, 2016. Mel was born on December 5, 1925 in Leavenworth, Washington to Conrad L. Fisher and Sadie Elizabeth (Howerton) Fisher. Read More	Surrounded by his family, Melvin "Mel" E Fisher of East Wenatchee passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord Jesus on Father's Day, June 19, 2016. Mel was born on December 5, 1925 in Leavenworth, Washington to Conrad L. Fisher and Sadie Elizabeth (Howerton) Fisher. He was so small they put him in a shoe box and stuck him in the oven; so he was told. He was the third of 5 children and attended schools in Leavenworth and Poulsbo Washington. He worked at the Torpedo plant at Port Gamble during the war. Mel married Delphia B. Guthrie on October 12, 1947. Of this union, his 4 children were born, Donna Jo, Janet Kay, Diane Elaine and Roger Eugene Fisher. Mel worked as a machinist for firms in Leavenworth and Wenatchee. Later as he continued in his field of automobile parts and repairs, he became a parts manager for Elder Auto Parts and had a branch store in East Wenatchee for 17 years. He was an East Wenatchee Water District commissioner in the 70's. On August 25, 1973, he married Ruth Kenaston and brought her two sons, Scott and Todd into the family. They moved to Longview, Washington in 1975, were he worked for 7 years as a parts manager for Buck Wisner Buick-GMC. Many of his customers were Weyerhaeuser and large trucking firms. They were able to see Mt. Saint Helens erupt from their home in 1980 while living in Longview. Mel and Ruth moved back to East Wenatchee in 1982. He continued working in the auto parts business till 1991 when he retired from Cascade Chevrolet Dealership. Mel and Ruth spent 18 winters in Apache Junction, Arizona where he made many friends and learned new hobbies, one being the making from scratch miniature Ming wire trees. Another hobby was shuffle boarding for which he received several metals. His love of fishing brought him and family to Depoe Bay, Oregon for many years and then continuing the yearly family gathering at Conconully. Mel and Ruth were able to enjoy trips to Mexico, cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean. In 1997 they traveled to Thailand on a mission trip thru the Church. He finally sold his big Honda motorcycle when he said, "if it falls over, I won't be able to pick it back up". Melvin attended Assembly of God churches from his childhood regardless of where he lived. He was a Sunday school teacher and board member for many years. Another love of his was bowling and he was known to have a dog on his lap to keep him company from youth till his death. He is survived by his wife Ruth of 42 years, Daughters, Donna (Larry) Northwind, Janet, (Pat) Mabes, Diane (Scott) Spencer; Sons, Roger (Debbie) Fisher, Scott (Nancy) Kenaston ,Todd Kenaston and one sister, Doris (Frank) Whitmire. He leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 24 great- grandchildren and 5 great- great- grandchildren. Melvin was proceeded in death by his parents, Conrad and Sadie; Brother Edwin, sisters, Lola Bussert and Bernice Carpenter. Celebration of his life Service will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at 1:30 PM at the Wenatchee First Assembly of God church at 1520 McKittrick Street in Wenatchee. The service will conclude at the church. Suggestions for memorials under his name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Washington State Chapter, 100 W.
