He passed away Friday December 31, 1993, after a short illness, while a patient at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of 58 years, 1 month and 2 days. He was educated in the Nelson schools. Melvin lived most of his life in Nelson. He worked in the grocery store at Nelson for Herb and Virgil Dillman and then had his own refuse route. He was a member of the Christian Church, now Nelson Community Unite Church of Christ. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include three brothers, Clayton of Fairbury, NE, and Raymond and Wesley of Nelson, Nebraska. Funeral services were held Monday, January 3, 1994, at 2 p.m. from Nelson Community United Church of Christ with Rev. Royce Buchtel officiating. Music was provided by soloist, Ruth Watts, singing "In The Garden" and "How Great Thou Art", with Dot Ferebee as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were R.L. Culbertson, Royce Schott, Ted Madson, Lee Williams, Don Biltoft and Jim Menke. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson was in charge of the arrangements.
