Description	:	MELVIN BLESSINGTON Melvin Blessington, 91, of Auburn died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at the United Presbyterian Church in Auburn with the Revs. Donald Gibson and Charles Fleming officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery at Auburn with military honors by the Auburn American Legion. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City. Melvin Fred Blessington was born Sept. 20, 1914 on a farm near Herring, to James and Bertha (Voss) Blessington. He was the eldest of eight children. He grew up and lived on many farms throughout Sac County. On July 7,1942, Melvin married Beth Fleming in Maryville, Mo. The next day he left for the Army and served his country in WWII. Mr. Blessington followed General George Patton across Germany. At the end of tlie war, he was one of three left in his platoon. Upon returning from the service, he and Beth settled on a farm north of Ulmer and began raising their family, consisting of Blaine, Ron, Susan and Randy. He farmed and after moving to Auburn in 1959, he worked at Carroll By-Products for 22 years before retiring. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Auburn and was an usher for many years. Mr. Blessington was a member of the Auburn American Legion Post #284 for 50 years. Survivors include two sons: Blaine Blessington and his special friend Annette Wallersedt of Lake View, and Randy Blessington of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Susan Corderman and her husband Mike of Aurelia; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Myrna Riley of Shawnee, Kan. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter, Sheila Stic; a son, Ronald Ray; and a brother, Lloyd.
