He had been a resident of Monona County all his life. His parents were Charles "Deck" and Fannie Funkhouser. He was the second child born of a family of ten children. Read More	Melvin Funkhouser, was born in Onawa, Iowa July 25, 1900 and passed from this life in the Pleasant View Home in Whiting on May 5, 1980. Death came at the age of 79 years. He had been a resident of Monona County all his life. His parents were Charles "Deck" and Fannie Funkhouser. He was the second child born of a family of ten children. On October 12, 1921 he was united in marriage with Ruby Archer in Onawa, Iowa. To this union two children were born; a daughter Helen (Mrs. Dale E Bard) of Dallas, Texas, and a son, Jimmie Melvin Funkhouser of Sioux City. He farmed for many years until 1947 at which time they moved into Whiting where he served for several years as the water maintenance man. He served for many years as a volunteer Fireman. Early in life he accepted the Christ as his Savior and was united with the Methodist Church. Melvin was a family man who loved his home, family and friends. Survivors include his wif Ruby, daughter Helen; son Jimmie, three grand-daughters, two grandsons; three great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons, three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Nickolisen of Sioux City; Mrs. Ada Baker of Whiting and Ms. Hope Rimmer of Spirit Lake, Iowa; also five brothers, Neal, Glen and Charles Funkhouser all of Whiting, Floyd Funkhouser of Sloan and Frank "Bill" Funkhouser in California. His father and mothe, one brother Lawrence preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Friday, May 9, 1980 at the First Christian Church, Onawa, Iowa with Rev Everett Epperson officiating. Interment was in the Harrison Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa.
