Melvin Garhard Aus was born July 4, 1910 in Nelson Township, rural Barnes County, the son of Engebret and Olina (Arnt) Aus. He attended Green School in Green Township. He farmed his entire life. He began farming near Litchville in 1934. On October 8, 1934 he married Vivian Henningsgard in Valley City. They made their home on a farm near Litchville and later moved to Dazey. After a time, they moved to Rogers. They retired to Valley City in 1957. Vivian died Nov. 21, 1999. He entered the Sheyenne Care Center in December, 1996. He was a former member of Nebo Lutheran Church, Valley City. Melvin Aus is survived by his sons, Kenneth of Valley City, Milton (Mary Ann) of Kindred and Duane (Marlys) of Rapid City, S.D.; a daughter, Marlene (Douglas) Siedschlag of Valley City, 16 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and infant daughter, Marion Mildred Aus, two grandchildren, three brothers, and three sisters. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley, the American Diabetes Association of a charity of your choice.
