Description	:	Melvin Hargis, son of Serepta Ann and Henry Hargis, was born Nov 30, 1881, and died April 17, 1958. He was married to Hattie Hughes in the year of 1901. She preceded him in death July 6, 1954. He lived most of his life around New Market and Clarinda. He had been an Odd Fellow for 50 years, for which he had received his 50 year pin on March 17. Mrs Will (Marie) Wilcox of Clarinda, Mrs Bob (Veralena) Coulter of New Market, Mrs Chick (Dorothy) Brown of New Market, Mrs Harold (Ruth) Smith of Stringtown, Keith (Jack) of Clarinda, Muriel (Shorty) of New Market, Lyle of Shenandoah and Darrell of Midwest City, Okla. Others surviving are: one sister, Golda Persinger of Omaha; 26 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. A sister and a brother preceded him in death. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church at New Market April 21, conducted by Rev Clarence Moore and Rev Lacy Thompson. Soloist was Mrs Walter Stanton, pianist, Mrs Ben Anderson. Flower attendants were granddaughters, Mrs Harold Ross, Mrs Dutch Bingham, Mrs Kenneth Cooper, Mrs George Jones, Sharon Hargis, Janice Hargis, Joyce Hargis, and one great-granddaughter, Kaye Jones. Casket bearers were grandsons, Bob Wilcox, Charles Brown, Gary Smith, Donald Hargis, Billy Brown and Melvin Hargis. Interment was in the Old Memory Cemetery.
