Description	:	Melvin H. Hall, 86, 2334 Ave. H, Fort Madison, died Monday, July 16, 2001, at his home. He was born Oct. 25, 1914, at Hills, the son of Warren A. and Lavina K. Deatsch Hall. He married Mary Cecelia Holtkamp, June 14, 1938, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Fort Madison. She preceded him in death Feb. 7, 1964. He was born Oct. 25, 1914, at Hills, the son of Warren A. and Lavina K. Deatsch Hall. He married Mary Cecelia Holtkamp, June 14, 1938, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Fort Madison. She preceded him in death Feb. 7, 1964. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Fort Madison, the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. He donated his RH Negative Blood to the former Sacred Heart Hospital. He helped with Troop #7 Boy Scouts of America, Explorer Scouts and Sea Scouts, and later served as a councilman with them. He was also a member of the Isaac Walton Club, Iowa State Coon Hunters, Lee County Coyote Hunters, National Rifle Association and the National Trappers Association. He was a commercial fisherman, an avid coon hunter and outdoorsman. He worked for Walter A. Sheaffer as his groundskeeper. Later during World War II he worked as a Maintenance/Plumber-pipefitter at Sheaffer Pen, retiring in 1974. He is survived by five sons, Dale M. Hall, Don F. (wife Donna) Hall, Bill (wife Dolores) Hall and Gene (wife Judy) Hall, all of Fort Madison and Jim D. Hall, Burlington; two daughters, Carol A. (husband Jerry) Fedler, West Point and Mary Jo (husband Bill) Gavillet, Carthage, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; one sister, Celeste Thinker, Fort Madison; three brothers, Cleo A. Hall, Phoenix, Ariz., Harley H. Hall, Oak Harbor, Wash. and Lloyd J. Hall, Granada Hills, Calif.; and four sisters-in-law, Nellie Noll, Agnes Holtkamp, Martha Holtkamp and Arlene Cale. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, three sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law. Friends called after 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 18, at King-Lynk Funeral Home, Fort Madison, where the Rosary was recited at 3 p.m., a Wake Service was held at 7:30 p.m. and the family met with friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, July 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fort Madison, with Rev. Tim Sheedy as Celebrant. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fort Madison. Memorials may be made to the Fort Madison Catholic School System and contributions may be left at King-Lynk Funeral Home.
