The services were under the direction of Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee. He was born May 19, 1909 in rural Cleghorn, to William and Gertrude (Schmidt) Pitts. He attended school at Maryhill. He lived and worked in the Maryhill area all of his life. He farmed and had a dairy herd for many years. He enjoyed raising draft horses, gardening and doing woodworking. The farm he lived on became a century farm in 1974, and was homesteaded by his parents. On March 2. 1967 he married Joyce Kenney at Maryhill She preceded him in death on December 24. 1989. Survivors include a son, Steve Pitts, and his wife, Diane of Cleghorn; three daughters, Bonnie Mongan, and her husband Rick, of Cherokee; Marlene Smith, of Marcus; Mary Pigott, and her husband, Larry, of Meriden; stepsons, Mike Walters, and his wife Carol, of Spencer; Dick Walters, and his wife Theresa, of Rockwell City. Denny DeYoung. and his wife Rosie of Quimby, sister Kathryn George, of Storm Lake, brothers-in-law. Bob Rahn of Cherokee and Robert Kenney. and his wife, Lois, of Corpus Christi Texas, twenty-nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; brothers Alvin, Joe and Wid; sisters, Mary Leonard. Rose Zimmer, Gertrude Messcrole and Helen Rahn; infant grandchildren Kevin and Kelli Smith and Terri Kraft; and a son-in-law, Duane Smith.
