Melvin Jacob Seematter was born September 13, 1939, son of Walter and Louise Svoboda Seematter at Marysville. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1957, and then joined the active duty military and National Guard from 1959-1962. Melvin married Betty Funke on October 12, 1963. After his time in the military, Melvin worked several jobs before becoming a mail clerk and carrier in 1966 for thirty-nine and a half years at the Marysville Post Office. Melvin loved spending time with his family. When his children were little he volunteered his time to help coach their sporting teams. Melvin was a jack-of-all-trades; he could do anything from being a member of the Marshall County Amateur Radio Club to shooting and developing his own photography and film negatives. Melvin appreciated all art forms and spent a lot of his time painting, wood working, dabbling in taxidermy, and music. Melvin always had a zeal for music whether it was making it, or listening to it; he loved country music and even had a band when he was younger. Some of his passions were fishing, hunting, watching westerns, playing with his dog, Dexter, and spending time with his HAMM Radio friends. His parents, Walter and Louise Seematter and a granddaughter, Kaylee Ann Durham, precede him in death. Survivors are his wife, Betty Seematter, three children, Diane (Jon) Stryker, Mike Seematter, and Susan (Mike) Craig. Grandchildren, Landon Durham, Anna Grauer, Cheyenne Seematter, Jacob Stryker, Christian Seematter, Garrison Craig, and Summer Seematter. Brother, Werner Seematter, and sister Mary Ann Marquardt. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary. The Hanover News/February 3, 2017/pg 3
