Funeral services were at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center on Saturday, December 2, the Rev. Mark De Witt officiating. Mouw, 71, of Sioux Center, died on Tuesday, November 28, at his home in rural Sioux Center. Funeral services were at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center on Saturday, December 2, the Rev. Mark De Witt officiating. Mouw was born to John B. and Grace (Van Roekel) Mouw on July 27, 1924, in Carmel. He entered the U.S. Army in 1945 and served in the Philippines for one year. He married Mina Feekes on September 4, 1945, in Carmel. He was discharged from the Army in 1946. The couple farmed for 26 years. He also worked for Sioux Implement and Sioux Automation, both in Sioux Center. He retired in 1987. He was a member of First Reformed Church, where he had served as a deacon, and the American Legion Doornink-Brunsting Post 199. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Survivors include his wife; five children. Rod and his wife, Harriet, of Longville, Minnesota, Mrs. Dave (Carol) Peterson of Atlantic, Mrs. Mike (Linda) O'Connor of Sioux City, Mrs. Doug (Alicia) Burgers of Longville, Minnesota, and Loren of Swisher; one brother and his wife, Gerald and Katheran of Sioux Center; two sisters, Mrs. Gerritt (Matilda) Sandbulte of Sioux Center and Mr. and Mrs. Rich (Junaida) Dibbet of Sioux Center; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Bernard (Marie) Mouw of Sioux Center; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren: and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Music at the funeral service was provided by Donna Den Herder at the organ, and by Ken Mouw and Irv Mouw, who sang "Some Time, Some Where" and by Ken Mouw and Janet Franke, who sang "1 Will Serve Thee" and "Does Jesus Care." The congregation sang "Through it All." Casket bearers were Matthew Peterson. Nathan Peterson, David O'Connor. Michael Mouw, Brant Mouw, Pat O'Connor and Nick Burgers. Honorary bearers were Tyler Mouw, Austin Mouw and Ryan Mouw. Participating in the internment service were the American Legion Post 199 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6129. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. Sioux Center News 1995-12-05.
