Melvin Purvis Elvis, 77, husband of Carolyn Gandy Elvis, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence after an illness. MARION - Melvin was born April 28, 1938 in Horry County, a son of the late Wilbur McRoy Elvis and the late Louella Hatcher Elvis. He had retired from DuPont, after 32 years of service. Melvin was a US Navy veteran. He was an avid fisherman, golfer and loved woodworking. Melvin attended Marion Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Oak Tree Sunday School Class. Surviving Melvin in addition to his wife of the home are, a special niece, Wanda Gail Martin of Aynor; and several other nieces and nephews. Melvin was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, Geroy Elvis, Jewell Elvis Turner and Richard Elvis. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home of Mullins, with Rev. Stan Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Devotion Gardens Cemetery.
