Description	:	MELVIN R. FISCHER, 85, of Stanton, passed away Thursday, November 05, 2015, at the Knife River Care Center, Beulah. Mel was born on April 29, 1930, to Wendelin and Margaret (Lipp) Fischer in Bismarck, ND. He grew up and attended school in Bismarck with 10 siblings, graduating from St. Mary’s School. Following graduation, Mel served in the US Navy for a time before becoming an electrician. He married Monica Lacey in 1956 and between them were blessed with six children while living in Mandan. FISCHER, 85, of Stanton, passed away Thursday, November 05, 2015, at the Knife River Care Center, Beulah. Mel was born on April 29, 1930, to Wendelin and Margaret (Lipp) Fischer in Bismarck, ND. He grew up and attended school in Bismarck with 10 siblings, graduating from St. Mary’s School. Following graduation, Mel served in the US Navy for a time before becoming an electrician. He married Monica Lacey in 1956 and between them were blessed with six children while living in Mandan. In 1965, they moved to Stanton to pursue his career as an electrician at Basin Electric’s Leland Olds Power Plant. After the passing of his wife Monica in 1985, he continued his love for his electrical career and the IBEW well into his retirement, traveling to many construction projects throughout the upper Midwest. In 1989, he married Cathy Blazek and together they recently celebrated their 26th anniversary. Mel loved his family and career and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the Twins. He was handy with many tools and had many hobbies too numerous to mention. Mel will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife, Cathy of Stanton; six children, Rodney, Wendy (Ray) Laverdure, Tammy (Lee) Pfennig, Patty (Terry) Johnson, Mary (Mike) Richter, Carol Kambeitz, three step-children, Keith (Tracy) Blazek, KimTiber, Denise (Mitch Kleingartner) Blazek, 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; five sisters and three brothers; numerous nieces and nephews. Mel is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one brother-in-law. A special thank you to Sakakawea Hospice of Hazen and the Knife River Care Center for all the love, care and support that was given to Mel. Arrangements conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Hazen and Beulah.
