Description	:	Melvin Robert Weigle, age 95, of Riceville, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2010 at the Riceville Rest Home in Riceville, Iowa. Melvin "Pete" Weigle was born on November 10th, 1915, near Deerfield, Iowa, to Robert and Leora (Smith) Weigle. At age 5 Pete moved with his family to Riceville. Pete was united in marriage to Margaret Sloan on August 22, 1944 in Riceville. Pete served the United States in World War II as a soldier in North Africa and Italy. Melvin "Pete" Weigle was born on November 10th, 1915, near Deerfield, Iowa, to Robert and Leora (Smith) Weigle. At age 5 Pete moved with his family to Riceville. Pete was united in marriage to Margaret Sloan on August 22, 1944 in Riceville. Pete served the United States in World War II as a soldier in North Africa and Italy. After returning from the War, Pete worked at the Rath Packing Company in Waterloo, Iowa, and later at the Marhoefer Packing Company in Muncie, Indiana. After retirement Pete and Marge were very active in theircommunity delivering mail & meals on wheels, cleaning, light repair work and Legion activities with their many neighbors. Pete enjoyed golf, fishing and hunting. Survivors include his son, Bob Weigle and his wife Cindy of Fair Play, South Carolina and Atlanta , Georgia, granddaughter Dawn Whitley of Phoenix, Arizona, granddaughter Jessica Gross and her husband Andy Gross, of Kennesaw, Georgia, grandson Douglas Philips of Tequesta, Florida, great grandsons Avery Whitley, Tyler and Aiden Gross. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret, sister Julia Bird, and two brothers, Everett and Neldon Weigle Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Thursday, during the hours of 4- 7 P.M and at the funeral home on Friday before services . A rosary will be recited at 6:30 P.M. by the Knights of Columbus on Thursday evening.
