Description	:	Melvin Russell Blumell was the second of five children born to O. Russell Blumel and Frances Ackroyd. He was born on April 7, 1943 in Magrath, Alberta, Canada. He spent his childhood in Magrath and graduated from Magrath High School in 1961. At the age of 19, he began his two and a half year mission to Uruguay for the L.D.S. Church. Read More	Melvin Russell Blumell was the second of five children born to O. Russell Blumel and Frances Ackroyd. He was born on April 7, 1943 in Magrath, Alberta, Canada. He spent his childhood in Magrath and graduated from Magrath High School in 1961. At the age of 19, he began his two and a half year mission to Uruguay for the L.D.S. Church. After his mission, he attended Brigham Young University where he earned a BS degree in Agricultural Economics. He and Marilyn Frances Woodward were married on June 3, 1969 in the Manti Temple. The newlyweds moved to Arizona where Mel continued his education, earning a MA in International Business from the Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management. The couple moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mel worked many years for Jack Biegger Nissan. He made a mid-life career change and earned a MA in elementary education from Nova Southeastern University in 2000. For the next eight years, Mel taught fourth grade at Jack Dailey Elementary School in Las Vegas. Mel was admired for his intellect and his singing. While at BYU, Mel sang with the Sounds of Freedom, and throughout his life he performed at numerous weddings, funerals, and events. He loved playing his guitar and leading sing-alongs with family and friends. He also loved the outdoors and enjoyed exploring new areas, hiking and fishing. Mel read voraciously and wrote songs, poetry and stories. Mel was especially proud of the geodesic dome home he and his wife built together. Mel was preceded in death by both his parents and his sister, Myra Tollestrup. He is survived by his siblings, Lee Blumell (Joy) of Anchorage, Alaska; Robert Blumel (Karen) of Toronto, Ontario; and Denise Strate (Morgan) of Magrath, Alberta. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marilyn; and his children, Harry Woodward of Flagstaff, Arizona; Melissa Hale and Melanie Blumell-Healey (Michael) of Las Vegas. He is dearly loved and missed.
