Description	:	Melvin William Blevins, age 84, of Seven Mile Ridge Community, left for his new home Thursday, October 19, 2017 and is now in the presence of the Lord. He was a son of the late Dave and Minnie McMahan Blevins. He was also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Mildred Cook Blevins; sisters: Lois McClellan and Pearl Buchanan; brothers: Edward, Cary, Charles and Claude Blevins. Read More	Melvin William Blevins, age 84, of Seven Mile Ridge Community, left for his new home Thursday, October 19, 2017 and is now in the presence of the Lord. He was a son of the late Dave and Minnie McMahan Blevins. He was also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Mildred Cook Blevins; sisters: Lois McClellan and Pearl Buchanan; brothers: Edward, Cary, Charles and Claude Blevins. Melvin was a Charter Member of Freedom Baptist Church. He was a jack of all trades. When he was 16 years old, he started work on the Blue Ridge Parkway road construction. He worked in the mines as well and known for his landscaping and pulling galax. Melvin was a people person. He never met a stranger. Surviving is his daughter, Judy Branch and husband, Charles; sons: Jimmie Blevins and wife, Emma Jane and David Blevins and wife, Gail; brother, Lewis Blevins and wife, Phyllis; sister, Thelma Wilson; grandchildren: Sandra Williams, Stephanie McIntosh, Karen Peterson, Bradley Branch and Tristan Blevins; ten great-grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Blevins. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive. He loved and cherished them all very much. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 21st in Freedom Baptist Church. Rev. Claude Carroll and Rev. Paul Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
