Description	:	Melvina Klaassen Funeral services for Melvina G. Klaassen, 66, of Sibley, were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 6, at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, with Rev. Brian Hellenga officiating. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Little Rock, with Jurrens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. She died October 2, 2008. Melvina Gertrude Klaassen was born October 8, 1941 in Little Rock, the daughter of John and Carrie (Gruis) Nagel. She grew up near Little Rock and attended country school Elgin #4 until the completion of fifth grade and the school was closed. She then attended Little Rock Elementary and graduated from Little Rock High School in 1959. She worked at Joy Lunch as a waitress in Rock Rapids and then worked for the Osceola Coop Creamery in Sibley. She was married to Robert Klaassen on October 21, 1960 at Bethel Reformed Church in Ellsworth, Minn. In 1963 she ended her employment at the creamery. In 1974 she began working at the Little Rock Community School as a secretary in the superintendent's office. In 2002, Melvina was diagnosed with cancer and retired from the school on June 30, 2003. During this time she became very active with Relay For Life in Lyon county. She is survived by her husband, Robert Klaassen of Sibley; four children: Travis (Joanne) Klaassen of Sibley; Darcy (John) Kellen of Rushmore, Minn.; Dawn (Layton) Arends of Little Rock; and Doreen (Curtis) Krahling of Ashton; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Klaas (Diane) Nagel of Little Rock and Gerald (Jane) Nagel of Hartley. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Carrie Nagel.
