Description	:	Melzar Nathan "Red" Barnes, 89, of North Platte, died Oct. 3, 2004, at Linden Court in North Platte. He was born Oct. 7, 1914, at Hale, Colo., to Wallace Henry and Francis Burrious Barnes. He grew up in Colorado and went to high school at Wray, Colo. After high school he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked in the Estes Park, Colo., area. In 1935, he moved to North Platte and worked odd jobs until going to work at St. Mary's Hospital. Read More	Melzar Nathan "Red" Barnes, 89, of North Platte, died Oct. 3, 2004, at Linden Court in North Platte. He was born Oct. 7, 1914, at Hale, Colo., to Wallace Henry and Francis Burrious Barnes. He grew up in Colorado and went to high school at Wray, Colo. After high school he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked in the Estes Park, Colo., area. In 1935, he moved to North Platte and worked odd jobs until going to work at St. Mary's Hospital. He later worked at Memorial Hospital for 36 years as a maintenance Engineer, he also worked seven years at Great Plains Regional Medical Center and retired from there in 1979.On Aug. 2, 1936, he married Opal Rosetta Lee in North Platte, where they made their home. Mr. Barnes was a member of the North Platte Berean Church where he was active in various activities, he was member of Diamond "K" Kiwanis, a camping club, he had been an assistant Cub Scout Master, and he liked to bowl and belonged to the senior league. Survivors include a daughter, Frances Burch of North Platte; two sons, James (Judith) of Granite City, Ill., and Robert (Mary) of North Platte; eight grandchildren, Douglas (Tena) Burch, Sheila (Mike) Peel, Steven Burch, Janice (Joe) Bondurant, Jerry (Marti) Barnes, James (Stacie) Barnes, Shelly (Lyndon) Ginn, and Cindy (Kevin) Shannon; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Bazyn of Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Alice "Irene" Barnes of North Platte; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal; his parents; and a brother, Herbert C. Barnes. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the North Platte Berean Church with the Rev. Tom Walker officiating. Burial will be at the North Platte Cemetery.
