Description	:	Merhle Basil Warfield Jr. passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Merhle was born Feb. 26, 1927, at Babble Brook Farm in Etchison, were he had lived for his entire life. He was the son of the late Merhle Basil Warfield Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Leishear. Read More	Merhle Basil Warfield Jr. passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Merhle was born Feb. 26, 1927, at Babble Brook Farm in Etchison, were he had lived for his entire life. He was the son of the late Merhle Basil Warfield Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Leishear. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Moxley Warfield, to whom he was married for more than 60 years. Merhle was a lifelong dairy farmer in Montgomery County until his death. He was born, raised, and later owned and operated Babble Brook Farm which was purchased by his father in 1925. He was a member of the Upper Montgomery County Farmers Club, a life member of the National Young Farmer's Group, nominated for the Maryland Young Farmer Award and was selected by the Jaycees as Outstanding Young Farmer. He was a leader in the 4-H Club of Montgomery County for many years. Merhle was a member of the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department for more than 65 years and was a life member and past president. He served on the fire department's board of directors and many other committees. Merhle was honored to be presented the Larry Johnson Memorial Award by the fire department at their 65th banquet in November 2009. He was past president of the Montgomery County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. Merhle served on the board of directors of Woodbine/Westminster/Mercantile Bank and also served as 2nd vice president of Woodbine National Bank for many years. He was a past director of Carroll County Mutual Insurance Co. Merhle was a member at Montgomery United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Merhle Wayne Warfield and wife, Sharon, of Etchison, and Raymond Curtis Warfield Sr. and wife, Nancy, of Gaithersburg; and four grandchildren, Raymond Curtis Warfield Jr. and fiance, Melissa Davis, Brandee Elizabeth Warfield, Jason Edward Warfield and fiance, Suzanne Gilbert, and Kristin Leanne Warfield. He is also survived by two sisters, Lavinia Kelley and husband, Truman, and Ruth Davis and husband, William; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 3, at Damascus Volunteer Fire Department Activity Center, 10211 Lewis Drive, Damascus. The funeral services will immediately follow the visitation. The Rev. Paul Leatherman from Sam's Creek Church of the Brethren will officiate. Pallbearers will be Curtis Warfield Jr., Jason Warfield, Bobbie Jamison, Roy Stanley, Gene Walker, Larry Lynch, Bobby Allnutt and Robert Mullinix. Honorary pallbearers will be Stanley Wolf, Marlin Rittase, Doc Wilson, Paul Sterling, C.T. Jones, James Gartner and James Beall. Interment will be in Montgomery United Methodist Cemetery, Damascus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Montgomery County Farmer Club, c/o Gene Walker, 12051 Prices Distillery Road, Damascus, MD 20872; and Damascus Volunteer Fire Department, 26334 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD 20872.
