Her Funeral Service will be Saturday, July 12, 2008, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Eureka, with Pastor Dianne Rood-Kiesz officiating. Burial will follow at the Eureka Cemetery. Merilda E. Gill, daughter of Magdalena (Klein) and William C. Gill, was born near Java in Campbell County on Jan. 19, 1915. She was formally educated at the Hoff Rural School, after which time she stayed at home to help on the farm. She married Karl Kirschenmann on May 19, 1935. They farmed near Hillsview and Eureka. From 1962-1979 they did farm work near Athol. Upon retirement, they returned to the Eureka area. Mr. Kirschenmann died on Feb. 3, 1998. Merilda continued living in Eureka and since July 2007 had lived at the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. Her hobbies included gardening, canning, baking, and quilting. Over the years, she made some outstanding patchwork quilts. Merilda is survived by one son, Floyd C. (Joan) Kirschenmann of Oconomowoc, Wis.; and two sisters, Verna Kurle of Eureka, and Violet Neifer of Decatur, Ga. She was preceded in death by her father on Aug. 23, 1965, her mother on March 8, 1972, her husband, and one brother (Ed Gill). Casketbearers will be Kenny Kurle, Ervin Beck, Jim Mulder, Greg Grenz, and Greg Merkel of Eureka, and Darrell Bentz of Artas.
