Description	:	Merle Douglas Butler, 52, of Cushing, a Navy veteran of World War II, died Monday night in a Grand Island hospital. He had been hospitalized three weeks. Mr. Butler was born in Genoa, Feb. 24, 1911. Survivors include his wife; one son, Merlean at home; a daughter, Barbara at home, and a daughter by a previous marriage, Mrs. Berneda Cochran at Oceano, Calif; his father, Forrest Butler at Palmer; two sisters, Mrs. Shirley Hill at Omaha and Mrs. Laura Aschwege at Palmer; and two grandchildren. He moved with his parents to the vicinity of Cushing in 1920. He enlisted in the Navy after the outbreak of World War II and following discharge from service, returned to the Cushing area, where he made his home during the remainder of his lifetime. He was a member of the American Legion post at Wolbach. He was married to Doris Mickelsen May 8, 1958 at Plattsmouth. Mr. Butler received his schooling in the Cushing public schools and was a graduate of Cushing High School. Survivors include his wife; one son Merlean at home; a daughter Barbara at home, and a daughter by a previous marriage, Mrs. Berneda Cochran at Oceano, Calif; his father, Forrest Butler at Palmer; two sisters, Mrs. Shirley Hill at Omaha and Mrs. Laura Aschwege at Palmer; and two grandchildren.
