Burial will be in Fenton United Methodist Cemetery, Fenton, Iowa. Merle Frank Voigt was born May 20, 1926, in Iowa City, to Vern Switzer and was adopted by William and Leona (Wehrspan) Voigt. He was resided in Fenton and graduated from Fenton High School in 1944. He proudly served in the U.S. Army serving in Panama.He married Lois Ruth Hantelman on September 4, 1949 in Fairville. They were the parents of four children. He was employed as an independent oil jobber with Phillips 66. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Fenton Fire Department, the Fenton First Responder's Unit, American Legion and worked at the Fenton Sweet Corn Days. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, gardening and bird watching. After his retirement, he took up woodworking and his creations can be seen in many houses, patios and front yards. He loved the comfort of his home and family. Merle loved his hometown and never wanted to leave. Above all, he loved the time he spent with his family. Surviving are his wife, Lois; three daughters, Teresa Bomhoff, Terri Henriksen and Valaine Cole; one son, Vance (Glenda) Voigt; six grandchildren, Torrey Holst, Tyson (Janet) Bomhoff, Jenny (Tim) Bengs, Tessa Schmidt, Ryan Voigt and Alexandra Bomhoff; six great-grandchildren, Cayden Holst, Scarlett Bomhoff, Colten Bengs, Hunter Bengs, Joey Thompson and Dakota Thompson; three great-great-grandchildren, Finnegan Bengs, Emmalyne Lovejoy and Liam Thompson; and three sisters, Peggy Micile, Louanne Domek and Cindy McDonald. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, three sisters, Norma Douglas, Betty Mueller and Lois Stegen, one brother, Loren Voigt, one half brother, Calvin Voigt and one nephew, William Douglas.
